Description

Barricade Herbicide

Active Ingredient: Prodiamine @ 480g/L

Barricade Herbicide is for pre-emergent control of weeds in established turf, garden beds and nursery pots as per the Directions for Use.  Barricade controls susceptible weeds by interfering with cell division in the root tips of newly germinated weeds.

Barricade Herbicide is popular for its ease of use and longevity against troublesome weeds such as crowsfoot grass, crabgrass, chickweed, creeping oxalis, cudweed and sow thistle.

Barricade Herbicide is a non-staining liquid that may be applied as a topical spray to foliage followed by irrigation to wash the product into the growing media, or where canopy density is high as a soil-directed spray.

Barricade controls a wide range of pre-emergent grassy weeds and importantly breaks the germination cycle of Winter Grass (poa annua).

You can trust Barricade to last for up to 6 months so your application window is more flexible.

Barricade Herbicide binds high in the soil profile ensuring turf roots below the barrier are not affected and your turf stays in prime condition.  Barricade as a pre-emergent herbicide works in the topsoil layers. Application targeted towards delivering Barricade close to the soil surface is best suited to ensure optimum results. Barricade needs to be washed in within 7 days after application.

What turf species can Barricade Herbicide be used on;

Barricade Herbicide is recommended to be applied via boom application to ensure even coverage. The amount of Barricade Herbicide required per tank load varies depending on the weeds being targeted. In turf, it will range from 800mL to 3.2L per 400L of Water that must be evenly applied over 8000m2. Garden Beds require higher application rates, between 3.2L and 6.4L per 400L of Water that must be evenly applied over 8000m2. The Barricade Herbicide 'directions for use' must be consulted before use to ascertain the correct mixing rate for your situation.

Barricade herbicide is for pre-emergent control of weeds, including crabgrass, in established turf. It will not eliminate the crabgrass that is already present. Post-emergent sprays to target crabgrass in couch turf, which you may like to consider, include DSMA, MSMA, Metric and Quinstar.

When used as a pre-emergent, barricade herbicide works in the topsoil layers where weeds germinate. It provides season-long control (up to 6 months) in garden beds under mulch. Barricade Herbicide must bind to the soil to be effective, and an application targeted towards delivering Barricade close to the soil surface is advised to ensure optimum results. Barricade herbicide must be washed within seven (7) days after application. This can be achieved with light irrigation.

Barricade Herbicide is registered to be used safely in established Green Couch, Hybrid Couch and Qld Blue Couch varieties.  Do not apply Barricade Herbicide to newly seeded turf.  The application should be delayed until the turf is at least 100% coverage and the root system is developed beyond a 3cm depth.

Barricade Herbicide is recommended to be applied via boom application to ensure even coverage across the lawn.  If you have a 5-Litre spray pack, the conversion is 10-30mL Barricade in 10L Water to be evenly applied over 100m2 or 5-15mL per 5L Water over 50m2.

Goosegrass and Crowsfoot Grass are very similar and closely related.  They are both of the Eleusine genera of plants and are common weeds in Australian lawns over spring and summer.  They are unlikely to kill your lawn, however, are unsightly and will continue to spread as they set more seed. There are selective herbicides registered to remove these species (such as Tribute Herbicide) however they are very specific to the types of turf they can be used in which is mainly couch species.  The use of pre-emergent herbicides is recommended prior to the germination of these grass weeds and they are effective at providing ongoing residual control.  The pre-emergent herbicides are available in liquid (Spartan & Barricade) and granules (Freehand & Ronstar).   Always check the products label to ensure the herbicide you use is safe to use in the type of turf you have.  Please call Specialist Sales sales office on 1800780317 if more technical information is required.

  15. Q Hey...how does Barricade Herbicide go with animals? Dogs, Cats and Chickens.
Asked by Craig Scott on October 1, 2021 1:22 pm
    Answered by the admin

Barricade Herbicide has a withholding period that states "Do not graze treated turf/lawn or feed turf/lawn clippings from any treated area to poultry or livestock".  Hence if you have animals that either produce by-products (ie chickens eggs, cows milk etc) for human consumption or plan on using the animal for human consumption, this withholding period applies.  This also applies to animals that may be used for this purpose in the future due to the residual effect from the herbicide.

In regards to removing pets and livestock from the area, the best practice is to remove all animals while spraying and keep them away until the chemical has dried before reentry.  A period of approx 8-24 hours should be adequate.

As our advice is general in nature we recommend speaking with the manufacturer of Barricade Herbicide (Syngenta Australia on Phone: 1800 022 035) if further clarification is required.
